A map of Rijeka shows it’s superb position at the northern end of the Adriatic. Situated Eastern part of Kvarner Bay, the city of Rijeka is Croatia’s principal seaport and third largest city with it’s growing population of 144,000 (2001). It’s 30-50m deep-water port and superb location at the north end of the Adriatic, make the port of Rijeka a prime conduit for the growing trade finding it’s way from Croatia and central Europe - to the world.

Rijeka is a working harbour and as such, it is full of boats, cargo, cranes, yet with its many marinas it can accommodate everything from small pleasure craft to mighty tankers. Today, Rijeka is well connected to Zagreb and the rest of the country via the A6 highway, while the A7 links it with Croatia’s northern neighbour Slovenia.

Rijeka’s airport is located on the nearby island of Krk, which is connected to the mainland by a land bridge across the island of Sveti Marko and around the natural harbour of Bakar. Although not seen in this Rijeka map, the city is well connected by rail, to Ljubljana, Trieste, Zagreb and through to the Hungarian border via Koprivnica.
